What the reviewers are saying
”Michel LaCroix has outdone himself with the sequel to Alex in Wonderland. This book continues the exploits of Alex, but with more concern for character development and plot structure. The fun is still there, but Alex is more mature. Life is not just a party, but an experience to which characters give of themselves, share, help each other and grow together. Altogether, an excellent read." –Emrys Lloyd-Roberts, author of People Plural
"Written after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, this book is a valentine to one of America's most beloved cities and leaves the reader with a satisfying afterglow long after Alex finishes his madcap journey through Wonderland. I can hardly wait for the next installment!" – Ciji Ware, author of A Race to Splendor
"Colorful, Entertaining, a Must-Read! Trust fund heir Alex and his lover Cord are gifted a stately old home in the French Quarter by Alex's newly-divorced mother Karen, with the transfer conditional on their playing landlord to its former owner, an elderly lady and her maid/best friend who take up residence in a guest house on the property. Their best friend Jolie meets Mark, a new arrival from Tennessee with a secret that later threatens their relationship. Cord's younger, gay brother comes to visit, and starts on a marathon of partying that causes friction between the two brothers. Meanwhile, Karen is dating an eligible physician, the mysterious "Bead Queen" pops up unexpectedly with predictions that seem to come true, and two of the characters get involved with Lance, a rogue aristocrat with a compulsion toward extreme S&M. As if all this doesn't provide enough turmoil, the entire city braces itself as Hurricane Katrina makes it way toward its shores.
In this sequel to his first novel, "Alex in Wonderland", LaCroix brings back the colorful New Orleans characters that made that story such a delight, but provides enough background information so "newbies" won't feel at a disadvantage. The story development, including the impact of Katrina, is outstanding, and I actually liked this a bit more than the original book. Five strong stars out of five." -Bob Lind, Top 1000 Reviewer

Through with the Looking Glass The Wonderland Series Book 2 edition by Michel LaCroix Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
When I learned that the sequel to Alex in Wonderland, I was delighted. I so enjoyed reading that book. The sequel is every bit as engaging. Michel Lacroix is a literate, entertaining, and thoroughly winning author. His stories move very quickly, with quirky characters, fascinating plot twists, and great joie de vivre on every page. What sets his books apart though, is the exacting detail he brings to the story. You are quite literally "there"; each sense is engaged when you read the book. It's a rare author who can accomplish such a feat.
I heartily recommend Through with the Looking Glass. It's a perfect holiday read.
If Armistead Maupin ever centered a volume of his beloved TALES in New Orleans it could easily be this enchanting tilt-a-whorl of a story. THROUGH WITH THE LOOKING GLASS is full of over-the-top characters involved in cleverly thought out situations. As in Maupin's delightful novels, coincidence falls by the wayside, as every mind boggling question receives an equally outlandish answer.
This is the second in a promised series of books featuring Alex Sumner, an adorable if somewhat spoiled heir to a multimillion dollar fortune, and his ruggedly handsome if sometimes temperamental partner Cord. After overcoming several seemingly insurmountable obstacles to their relationship in the first book, ALEX IN WONDERLAND, the guys have finally settled into domestic bliss in a large old mansion in the French Quarter, bought for them by Alex's loving mother Karen, with a portion of the settlement she received when she divorced Alex's loathsome father Randolph.
The first novel introduced many delightful eccentrics, but it was primarily Alex's and Cord's story. LOOKING GLASS is much more of an ensemble piece. While Alex and Cord constitute the anchor for this ship of foolishness, the other passengers provide many a colorful tale.
They include Jolie, Alex's flamboyant best friend and mentor, Mark, a stranger from Memphis who captures Jolie's heart, Angelique, a notorious Crescent City hostess, Lance, a wicked and dangerous uniform enthusiast, Been Her a transsexual in the final stages of becoming a man, Darcy, Cords younger troubled gay brother, Garance and Viola, an ancient former stripper and her lady's maid, and the ever present and mysterious Bead Queen, who predicts the coming of Hurricane Katrina among other things.
I really enjoyed ALEX IN WONDERLAND, but THROUGH WITH THE LOOKING GLASS is truly a superior effort. No outrageous stone is left unturned as this story travels towards its eventual conclusion. It's a beguiling human puzzle and a love letter to New Orleans that never ceased to amaze me. Frankly, that's exactly how I felt when I first read TALES OF THE CITY.
Very good sequel. It kept me entertained and turning pages. Just like the first book, it was an effortless read. I'm very glad I own it so that I can re-read it sometime.
I really enjoyed this book, the second in the series. It was great fun to watch the characters develop even further. The storyline was very interesting. Overall, a very fun book.
I loved all the characters in this story. Even though Alex and Cord are the "stars" all the others are so well written that it's their story too. Tears, fears, and laughter. Even though I came to this series late in the game my friends will all hear about the love of Alex and Cord and I can't wait to live in the next book.

Michel LaCroix has outdone himself. His first "Alex" book - Alex in Wonderland - was enjoyable and a fun read. Life is not just a party, but an experience to which characters give of themselves, share, help each other and grow together. Altogether, it is an excellent read.
Alex and his friends continue their adventures. Happy transitions, a sweet old love story, criminals, the Bead Lady, and Katrina all add to the fast moving story.
